A book came in the mail today from another Dutchman and I was just reading it in the bathtub. Pieter Bos told me he was writing it when we were together in Berlin last year. Peter is a seasoned intercessor type person who has a warm heart for God and nation. He sees God as calling nations into a marriage relationship with Himself. "O Virgin daughter Israel", "O Virgin daughter America". I love his approach and prefer it to the more militaristic terminolgy of recent books. His book is called The Nations Called: A Theology of the Nations and their Redemption. He doesn't see nations as targets to be hit, or entities to be colonized. He (and God, he argues) sees them as women (or sometimes trees) to be wooed and beautified and married.
Here are some of the names Peter gives to countries.
Brazil is God's Troubador, England is Humorous Father, USA is Adventurous Leader, Philippines is Available Worker, Germany is Obedient Governor, New Zealand is . . .Not Mentioned - hey, Pieter, whats up with that?
