Charlie Wear's Notes---Next-Wave

Charlie Wear of Next-Wave gets angry and KNOCKS THE POTLUCK!
"The postmodern discussion at least made me aware of what might be wrong. Now I hear that we just need more discussion of Preaching, Youth Ministry, and perhaps, How to hold a great Potluck!"
Be careful Charlie, dont mess wid dat potluck!
My thoughts on the potluck? I think there is huge potential for it. I once took some street kids from San Francisco to a potluck at an old, dead Presbyterian church, and they loved it to death. Great food and cool old people.
One of the things I hope to discuss at the Wabi SAbi conference next month in Austin is the idea of Gospel Brunch vs. Worship Service. Gospel Brunches fill up all over USA every Sunday but the churches act as if they dont exist. The potluck may be a good building block for a different kind of worship experience, one that involves something that hasnt been seen in an evangelical worship service for a really long time - GOOD FOOD.
BTW, do you know where we get the word "Service" in "Worship Service"? As far as I know, the Roman Catholics SERVE up the eucharist for the worshippers - ie, the idea is that there will be FOOD and some church people will SERVE it up to you as part of the worship.
Here is where home churches rock and large churches cannot pull if off, no matter how big their coffee urns are.
Sooooooo . . . which generation will put the SERVICE back into 'worship service'?
