Blab: A test drive of a new video chat app
Blab is a new video chatting app with social networking possibilities on offer from the people who brought you Bebo. Yes I had a Bebo account back in the day and so did my kids who thought I was too old to have a Bebo account.
What do I think about Blab in its beta form? I took Blab for a test drive and these are my first thoughts.
Positive:
- I like the idea of a video chat for 4 people on one screen where others can jump into the conversation. I might try it out soon.
Negative:
- It seems difficult to delete one's account and existing blabs. I say this because my daughter was already signed into Twitter at the time of my first blab and I cant figure out how to delete that account and continue with my own. That scares me a little - I hope deleting blabs will be as easy as creating new ones.
- The tabs on offer seem to appeal to young urbanites infatuated with social media. I would have liked some tags for "family" "travel" "kids" etc but these are not available and it seems impossible to add my own tags on the beta version. What about "religion"? Isn't religion a worthy and taggable topic anymore?
Conclusion: It seems like a video chat app for media geeks to talk about social media, giving valuable information that can be sold to companies. I will wait a bit longer for more robust offering with wider possibilities.
Techcrunch are not so sure. Yet.
