Willow Creek Community Church

Willow Creek's worship came up in an email this morning and i posed the possibility that an element in their worship might be beyond postmodern aesthetics.
If worship in the postmodern period was defined by discontinuity, juxtaposition, blurred genres, musical distortion, focus on the edges and contrast . . .
and the emerging culture (after postmodernism) is coming to be defined by continuity, blending, nested layers of co-existing and interdependent genres and realities . . .
then willow’s packaging concept – which, during the transitions, actually overlap and blend music +drama+ monologue all in the same moment – is in some ways more post-modern than many of emergent’s churches which choose to keep their elements of worship separate or sequential, and never overlapping or layered.
Willow Creek more postmodern than some of you? There’s a thought.
