Stephan Jay Gould , renowned Harvard scientist and author, died today from cancer. He was 60. As a palaeontolgist, he was interested in "deep time". He was a critic of the church's infatuation with the millennium and history of forcing their "pet stories on others who believed other fables." He believed our theories of the order of nature should not be "chains' to bind us but rather "vehicles" to lead us to understanding and peaceful relationships.
