Some of my friends are hanging out today at the Harley Davidson headquarters in Kentucky. They are hosting a learning adventure to learn how Harley Davidson is bridging the generation gap and attempting to appeal to a new generation. Much to be learned by church leaders. I thought it was a great idea and one of the most innovative conferences that have happened in a while. Kudos to Brad Smith and the team at Leadership Network

Some controversy to start the day. Faith: Bending the Bible a bit "100 Christian leaders" have just refused to endorse a new Bible translation called Today's New International Version.

I want to let you know that alternativeworship.org is now open to the public. I was with Steve Collins in London a week or so ago and he told me it was ready to go. It will be a great resource for the alt. worship scene in UK as well as Australasia. Making the USA connection will be a little harder.
I have been kicked out of my office today as my PA and my wife are making sense out of all the toys and papers and junk. Mostly junk.
Question for you MAC users: I have OS X and want 10.1 Is there anyway to download it or do I have to pay $120 for the disc? I have already paid $30 to be a tester on the beta version and got OS X with my iBook. Do I really need to pay out MORE money??

Fun to read Alan Creech's account of Search Party on next-wave.org

Andrew Jones at 10:38 AM

Although I failed miserably to write for the Germans this week, I did manage to write an article for Next-Wave.org called "Buffy The Backside Slayer". I really like this article. I enjoyed writing it and it honors my friends. Read it, dammit! And while you are at it, read others by my friends Alan Creech, Andrew Careaga and Mike Bishop who are also writing this month. Thanks to the staff at Next Wave for doing a great formatting job and including my photos and honoring my story.

I spent this morning and the last few days agonizing over an article that I never managed to write. A German publication wanted to publish an article based on the movement that I teach on spirituality called "The Tree By The River." I just wasn't able to write the article without compromising and reducing it, cheapening it. So I apologized and wrote them up something else. Hopefully they will like it, translate it and publish it. Want to read it? Learn German, dude!

Sasha gives this link. I heard that Jane Fonda has experienced a religious conversion some time ago.

Just met with Jarda who is back from Sri Lanka and working on a new blogging engine. I hope to be testing it out next week. I need to run Derek off to the airport - he is off to North Carolina for a week and maybe Texas.
I am working on a flight for 2 weeks time. I need to be in Colorado Springs (June 17-19) and Dallas (20th).
Then its back for our big event. Today I am writing an article for German translation and publication on The Tree By The River. All is well. I am also reading a good spy novel called Code to Zero, by Ken Follet - the 9th book of his that I have read. The best was The Pillars of the Earth.

Jonny from the jonnybaker blog is using G-FORCE for his visuals in worship. Its a great program and a free download. I highly recommend it.

The NY Times says that while he is hanging in Eastern Europe. His wife, The First Lady, came to Prague last week. Derek met the Secret Service guys at the Esso station where he goes for coffee. He drove out to the airport and saw her from a distance. I dont think she had time to pop over to our house for a cuppa. Maybe another time. And with Dubya.

Pizza party was cool last night. We had some people from Sri Lanka (Hindus) and there are already some girls here from Sheffield. Jarda is back from Sri Lanka (Jarda is the one who left his Microsoft job to follow God recently) and he says he can create a robot that will allow me to sms blogs from my cell phone. Let you know if it works out. I think he wants to create his own blogging engine that is easier to use.

OK. I need to download my experience from last week's trip to St Louis to be a part of Search Party.Things I enjoyed most:
1. Sharing a room and hanging with my good friend Doug Pagitt of Solomons Porch. We always have a blast together. We have chased gators in Florida, rollercoasted in Dallas, and have tested the food in a dozen cities (best was beef in Sante Fe and chinese in San Francisco). We also climbed the William Wallace Memorial in Stirling, Scotland (see photo for proof)
2. Speaking with Len Sweet. This was a real honor. Len has written, like 18 books, and I have a problem holding a thought for more than 2 pages - which is why I blog and write short articles. Len is a great thinker and it was fun to do a dialogue with him. We had an hour on stage together. Len kicked off with some thinking about the need to "double boot" our systems in order to cope with the multi-dimension world of global/local realities that some call "Glocal". I was coming more from the receiving end - I call it "Lobal" - which was very protective of local cultures around the world while enjoying the freedom and opportunities that the global tools give us. We had decided that any disagreement would be a postive thing - add a little tension - but as it worked out, we ending up agreeing and supporting each other all the way through. Who would have thought?
3. Meeting Heather and some others from the mainline denominations, especially United Church of Christ. I didnt realize that I had more in common with my Catholic friends (like Brian - see yesterday's blog) than with the Mainliners. Heather told us that she had never heard the Holy Spirit referred to as "He" before - she was responding to Todd Hunter's excellent message - and I told her that many people at the conference had never heard the Holy Spirit called a "She". Amazing how distant our worlds can be in the same country, and yet there is a real desire for us all to learn from each other and move forward together.
The team from Levis Table who led the conference did an amazing job in organizing it all. Thanks to Rob Graham, Ryan Hale, and the guys.
I gave Doug a shampoo bar from the Lush store in England. For his wife, I got a bar of exfoliating soap that takes dimples away. It's called "Buffy The Backslide Slayer." Hope she is not offended. This picture is Doug consoling his wife after she receives my gift. Hey - I dont know if she has dimples or not - I just liked the name of the soap!!!

Last week at St Loius I met Brian Mitchell from Intergen. This is a Catholic ministry in Oshkosh, WI. He did a film festival recently with conversation about spiritual topics. The usual films were there but I was surprised to see Shrek as one of the movies to be discussed. Although, as I pointed out to Brian, Faquad's perfect little city with all the "Others" kicked out of it kinda looked like a Fundamentalists Paradise.

Celebration last night at our household when Jessica (my PA) graduated from the International Baptist Theological Seminary. Go Jessica! She has been here in Prague for one year and is part of our family and community. Jessica is originally from North Carolina.

Porterville Recorder: News Column "The National Association of Evangelicals plans to close its California office and consolidate operations in its Washington office.
The Rev. Leith Anderson is now serving as interim president." My good friend Doug Pagitt, who shared a room with me last week, worked with Leith for 10 years up in Minnesota.

"Andrew, Could you re-describe the river exercises shown at Search Party 2002. I tried them this morning and was surprised how much it meant to my prayer life. K.B. "
Hi K.B. - here is a description from my Japan trip - same pattern. I will be writing up an article soon that describes it better but you can read this blog entry on The Tree By The River

I was hanging with Patrick McGuire of Altarnet Media Institute on the weekend. He is one of the guys responsible for the Damah Film Festival. I met him in 1995 in San Francisco when we were both helping a Christian TV station get going.

Stephan Jay Gould , renowned Harvard scientist and author, died today from cancer. He was 60. As a palaeontolgist, he was interested in "deep time". He was a critic of the church's infatuation with the millennium and history of forcing their "pet stories on others who believed other fables." He believed our theories of the order of nature should not be "chains' to bind us but rather "vehicles" to lead us to understanding and peaceful relationships.

Derek, who crashed on our couch in Prague last weekend and is turning our old apartment into an art studio, writes a weekly blurb for Tribal Generation. The artists are starting to come next week - 5 weeks before our actual event. Derek and Amy have found the studios of post-communist installation artist David Cherney and are applying to use it for the Epicentrum event. It is called the Meet Factory.

Christianity is growing robustly, according to historian Philip Jenkins, who says the quintessential Christian of the future will not be a white male surbanite but a poor brown-skinned woman from a huge city in the Third World.

Last weekend was the International Book Fair. Some of our group did a reading of Song of Solomon. We had a professional actor and musician perform the book on our circular red carpet and a mountain of cushions. It went really well and conversations with people about God went on to midnight. The book is published by Sasha's publishing company "Biblion". We now have lots of offers to perform the book in clubs around Prague. We are thinking of publishing the book, with its paintings by Chagall, in the German and English languages.

Today I am in London where I am introducing some Japanese friends with some English friends. The Japanese are doing cell church and the English are doing alternative worship. Both are interested in training and technology to be used for equipping the next generation. Should be an interesting meal. I only have enough time to rush from Heathrow to eat for an hour and then back to the airport again to get to USA. Major rush but I just love it when a plan comes together.

My daugther Abigail got herself a cell phone today. She is 6 years old and has been saving her money for 3 months. We now have about 7 cell phones in the family and more if we include the community. We now have a phone charging station the size of a Walmart parking lot.

I am starting to think about speaking at Search Party 2002. I speak once with Leonard Sweet on the Global church and I teach a workshop that I am calling "The Tree By The River". I will be sharing a room with Doug Pagitt and hanging with Wolfgang Fernandez - and all my friends - should be a good time.

England. PRAYER tonight at the London Eye. Be there!
"We stand firm, We stand Tall. We don't run but claim the ground we walk on.

As other intercessors have done in the past, the authority is often taken from the High Point of the area to stand tall against it's overwhelming surroundings. It's oversight with prayer and determination shower the city for the eruption of God's promises. The words we speak act as weapons against the control of darkness.

In his latest book, "The Next Christendom: The Coming of Global Christianity," Philip Jenkins offers his perspective on Christianity and world demographics.
"By the year 2050, six nations will each have over 100 million Christians, Jenkins projects. Only one, the United States, represents the "advanced industrialized world." The other countries are Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire)."

The .pro web address got the green light today.
Quote - "Right now, those who register .pro addresses must submit credentials to prove they're doctors, lawyers or accountants. In exchange, they'll get a set of enhanced security measures, including encrypted e-mail and a certificate that will be used to verify their identity."
Here is what bugs me - there is no mention of ministers or missionaries, who were America's first "professionals". A professional, someone who "professes" a higher faith and carries the high ethical standard of their calling/career, had to train for a long time to become professional. America's first universities were created to train Professionals for the profession of the ministry of the gospel. Medicine and Law were included along with ministry as "professional". Much later, the business world entered and borrowed the credentials of the word "professional".
But now, pro.com is offered to professionals and ministers are not mentioned. Accountants are professionals and ministers are not. Maybe we should come up with another word and another concept.
